Mabel Hannah Butterfield, age 100, of Lapeer, formerly of North Branch, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Mabel was born December 12, 1912, in Lapeer, to George and Lina (Griswold) Fitch. She married Lloyd Butterfield on June 19, 1937 in North Branch. Mrs. Butterfield received a Bachelor of Arts, in teaching, from Central Michigan University. She taught elementary school, for over 25 years, in the Saginaw, Lakeville and Lapeer School Districts. Mabel loved music, reading and watching Detroit Tiger Baseball.
Mrs. Butterfield is survived by her son: Robert (Suzanne) Butterfield of Columbiaville; daughter-in-law: Gaye Butterfield of Lapeer; grandchildren: Mike (Amie) Butterfield, David (Cheryl) Butterfield, Todd Butterfield and Kristopher (Jaime) Butterfield; 11 great-grandchildren. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband: Lloyd Butterfield; son: Thomas Butterfield; daughter-in-law: Pamela Butterfield; parents; siblings: Fred Fitch and Ethel Fitch Steffens.
A memorial service for Mrs. Butterfield will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 20, 2013, Pastor Todd Smith officiating, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service, at the funeral home.
