James Calvert, born April 2, 1942 in Lum, Michigan, died February 19, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was a loving Husband, Best Friend and Great Dad. Jim will be missed so much by his family and friends. Mr. Calvert was an auctioneer for 45 years, he loved his job. Most importantly, Jim loved taking care of his family. He enjoyed everything to do with his children, they were his life…he was so proud of them. In his spare time he liked his tractors and Harness Horse racing was his passion. Mr. Calvert drove horses and also announced horse races, where he met good friend Orin Engelhardt. Jim was a very good friend to many, his best friend from school is Doug Kennedy. He was also used to be a car salesman at Fuller Oertel in Lapeer, there he met dear friend Denny DeView. In high school, he started out working for Dick Arnold. Jim also served in the Army Reserves and part of the Detroit riots. Mr. Calvert had a very dry sense of humor that only his good friends could understand. Once you became Jim's friend, you were his friend for life. He was very thoughtful, caring and helped anyone in need.

Jim leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Brenda; sons: Justin, Nathan (friend Devon Benner) and Chance; daughter: Mariah; special sister/brother-in-law: Virginia Snoblen, and Fred Snoblen; father and mother-in-law: Martin and Gladys Laarman; cousin: Mike (Stephanie) Calvert; and many other dear friends and family. Mr. Calvert was preceded in death by his parents: Esper and Grace (Ruddock) Calvert; brother: Jack Calvert.

Visitation will be 1-4 and6-8 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Rosary will be prayed 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
