WINSTED –
HEIGHT - Shirley A. Height, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Valerie Manor in Torrington surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the loving wife of the late Richard Height for 63 years and a life long resident of Winsted. Born January 8, 1930 in Winsted; the daughter of the late Frederick and Ruth (Varley) Silverio.
She was a graduate of The Gilbert School. Retiring at the age of 83 from F & G Richards, Shirley spent 45 years with three generations of the Richard's family and thought of them as her second family. She befriended everyone she met and her home was a welcoming place to her family, her wonderful friends and neighbors. Shirley's greatest joy was her grandchildren and she especially cherished her Rhode Island vacations with them every summer.
She was a former member of the Italian American Women's Club, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the Fresh Air Fund for underprivileged children. Shirley also had strong faith and was a devout communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Winsted.
She is survived by four children, Craig Height and his wife Sue of Richmond, VA, Sandra O'Connor of Winsted, Kim Height and partner Sheila Holland of Wallingford and Tim Height and his wife Jodi of Barkhamsted; brother, Fred Silverio and wife Diane; 8 grandchildren, Erin Bates and husband Michael, Craig O'Connor and wife Samantha, Lauren Harrison and husband Bruce, Meredith O'Connor and fiancée David Kelly, Tyler Height, Taylor Height, Joshua Height and wife Chelsea, Lindsey Ledford and husband Bryce and 10 great grandchildren, Jackson, Benjamin, Anabella, Delilah, Daniel, Iris, Cooper, Laney, Adaline and Mayer. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her twin granddaughters, Courtney and Kelly O'Connor.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Joseph's Church at 10 AM. Burial will be held in the spring at Forest View Cemetery. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted has care of the arrangements.
