GRIFFIN – Porter "Skip" C. Griffin, III, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2016. He was the devoted husband of Joyce (Cameron) Griffin for 36 years. Born February 13, 1944 in Winsted; the son of the late Porter and Doris (Webb) Griffin, Jr.
He graduated from Gilbert and was self-employed as a Plumbing and Heating Contractor in the local area. Skip was a lifelong, proud resident of Winsted, very civic-minded sitting on many boards including Civil Service and Economic Development and served as First Selectman. He was a member of the Fire Dept for many years and later served as Deputy Chief. Skip also enjoyed being Mayor for the day.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters, Vanessa Tanner and husband Gerald of Torrington, Kimberly Griffin of Torrington, Lisa Whipple and husband Jeffrey of Winsted and Diane Jarvis of Torrington; two brothers, Roger Griffin of Enfield and Michael Griffin and wife Debra of Winsted; a sister, Susan Wright and husband Steven of Guilford; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Courtney, Jarvis, Jack, Megan and Ava; 2 great grandchildren, Cameron and Sydney; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Sylvia Berlinski of FL.
