David Lewis (Mr. B.) Billingsley was born December 25, 1925 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Willie and Chaney Lewis.

David struck out on his track of life at a very early age. He joined the U. S. Navy during the summer of 1942. He served in the Armed Forces as a Navy cook and was honorably discharged in 1946. He would later find himself relocated to Galveston, Texas where he worked on the Seawall as a cook.

He moved to Austin and started working at the Texas Employment Commission, but he later retired as a Grounds Custodian at the Austin State School. David was also known as a DJ. He would spin records at local bars and clubs in Travis County and surrounding counties and the people would stomp their feet to his tunes.

David was highly known for his Stacy Adams shoes and his charming character as being a "Ladies Man". Later he found love in a personal relationship with Jesus and even as his health began to fail, he could always say or do something that would make you smile.

He cooked the best cornbread from scratch and mustard greens with neck bones. His cooking lives on . . .

On December 13, 2013 David Lewis Billingsley was called home to his eternal resting place, Heaven. He was preceded in death by three wives, Josephine Billingsley-Hall (Galveston, Texas), Dorothy Surgers-Mitchell (Galveston, Texas) and Hattie Taylor-Billingsley (Bastrop, Texas); his parents Willie and Chaney Lewis (Holt, Alabama); sisters Bernice Hall, Elizabeth L. Traylor (Tuscaloosa, Alabama). He is survived by daughters Bernice Billingsley (Austin, Texas), Octavia M. Billingsley (Houston, Texas), Roshon Hewitt, Pam Aldridge (Bastrop, Texas); sons Errol L. Billingsley (Galveston, Texas), David E. Surgers, Bishop Lester E. Surgers (Austin, Texas), David L. Taylor (Bastrop, Texas); step children; sister Lillian L. Davis (Holt, Alabama); cousin Bennie Long, Jr. (Birmingham, Alabama); and a host of other relatives and friends.
