James "Jim/Red" Homan
1934-2016

James Homan, 82, Topeka, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 26, 1934 to John and Regina (McCormick) Homan in St. Marys, KS where he attended St. Marys Catholic Schools.
In 1954, Jim began work at Topeka State Hospital. While at Topeka State, he joined the Topeka Uniformed Police Patrol. He retired in 1993 from the Youth Center at Topeka (YCAT). Jim and Elzora lived most of their married life in the Silver Lake area.
Jim loved KU Basketball and his Chihuahuas, Twinkie and then Bella. He enjoyed fishing, taking long rides in the country spotting deer and other wildlife, and discussing anything and everything with family and neighborhood pals. Jim never knew a stranger.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Jack and Bill. Jim is survived by his wife, Elzora, of the home, and brother, Ray Dean, of Topeka. Other survivors include his four children: Mike (Marilyn), Judi Kutzke (Bob), Barbara Kutzke (Randy) all of Topeka, and Pattie Homan of Silver Lake. Jim also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Monday, November 7, at Prairie Home Cemetery at 35th and Menoken Rd., just northwest of Topeka. To honor Jim's love of KU basketball, attendees are encouraged to wear KU, or your favorite team's, garb.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Kansas Hospice for ongoing care and concern. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka or the Parkinson's Foundation. Jim was a member of the Kansas Cremation Service.
