Clifton Wayne McWaid
1930-2016

Clifton Wayne McWaid , 86, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at the Park Meadows Senior Living Care Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Clifton was born September 8, 1930 on a farm two miles south of Edinburg, Missouri to Hershel and Augusta (Lance) McWaid.
Clifton progressed from Trenton Junior College, to the University of Missouri, then Columbia University (NYC), where he graduated with a Master's Degree in art. An expert colorist with a flair for design and fashion, he once designed elaborate window displays for Kansas City's popular Harzfeld's department store on the Plaza.
He was a lifelong participant in Kansas City's art community and some of his work was displayed in the 11th Mid-America Annual Exhibition at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in 1961.
He taught art at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas for 30 years, earning a "Master Teacher Award" as one of Kansas' eight outstanding teachers in 1979. When it came time to retire from teaching, and bolstered by his sense of humor, he donned a salesman's cap and enjoyed mingling with like-minded antique and art aficionados.
He showed his love for the noble Basenji by adopting three of the breed in succession.
Clifton was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Leland, and three sisters, Melvina Sharp, Julia French, and Evelyn Shook.
He is survived by five nieces and eight nephews.
His ashes will be placed near his parents at Resthaven Cemetery in Trenton, Missouri. Online guestbook and obituary at www.kansascremation.com
