Duane E. LaRue, 77, of Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday April 11, 2013 at Grayling Nursing & Rehabilitation Community.
Duane was born on November 13, 1935 in St. Johns, Michigan to Victor & Hilda (Moore) LaRue. Duane graduated from Elsie High School. He served as a PFC in the Marines during the Korean War. Duane was married on February 23, 1957 in Ovid, Michigan to Carol Houghton. He farmed, worked construction, and worked for the Clinton County Road Commission before the couple moved to Houghton Lake in 1980. They owned & operated LaRue's KilKare in Houghton Lake from 1980 until retiring. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles and the Houghton Lake Moose. The couple sponsored men and women softball teams in the Houghton Lake leagues for many years.
Surviving Mr. LaRue are his loving wife of 56 years Carol LaRue of Houghton Lake; Daughter; Suzanne (Mike) Kobylarz of St. Johns, Son; James (Shanda) LaRue of Cortez, Colorado, five grandchildren; Jeremy (Marie) Kobylarz, Jamie Kobylarz, Ashley (Dylan) Ferguson, Dustin (Mitzi) LaRue, Megan LaRue, one great grandson Hunter James Ferguson, sister, Sandra(Larry) Madar of St. Johns, two step brothers, Keith(Dottie) LaRue of Paonia, Colorado, and Mark(Bonnie) LaRue of Elsie, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marilyn LaRue, and great grandson Rhett Ferguson.
Celebration of life service for Duane E. LaRue will be conducted at 12:00 PM(noon) Saturday April 13, 2013 at the Houghton Lake Eagles Hall, 201 Crestview Drive, Houghton Lake, MI. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Memorial Contribution in memory of Duane are asked to be directed to charity of donor's choice .
