Our much loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandpa, Fred Steensma, left us on March 17, 2015. He is now in the arms of his Savior, free from pain and confusion. Fred was born on April 10, 1925 to Andrew and Alice Steensma in Bigelow, Minnesota, the eighth of nine children. He married Rena Tolsma in Minnesota and together they moved to Lynden in 1946. He began a successful career as a dairy farmer and retired after 36 years. Together he and Rena raised three daughters and two sons. In retirement he continued helping on the farm, traveling, enjoying coffee with his coffee buddies and spending time with family. Fred loved to laugh and all that life had to offer. He is survived by his wife Rena; daughters Audrie (Glen) Shagren, Paulette (Ed) Huisingh, and Cindy (Craig) Collings; sons John (Karen) Steensma and Harvey (Meghan) Steensma; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; a sister Ann of Sibley, Iowa; and a brother Ted of Denver, Colorado. Memorials in Fred's name are suggested for the Back to God Ministries International, 6555 W. College Dr., Palos Heights, Illinois, 60463 or to Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Dr., Lynden, WA 98264. A Graveside Committal will be 12:15 pm, Monday, March 23, 2015 at Monumenta Cemetery followed by an 1:00 pm Memorial Service at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St., Lynden.
