June Spann was born on June 25, 1938 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey, daughter of the late Hosea Tucker and Maggie Raymond Williams Tucker. She was the youngest of eight children who were all raised in Linden, New Jersey.
June loved the Lord and often sang "Jesus is a Way Maker" as she held on to her faith. Sister Spann was a faithful member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Roselle for over 50 years. She was a member of the Senior Choir, and an Usher for over 25 years cheerfully serving as a Doorkeeper in the church that she loved. When RCA in Avenel closed its doors, June worked for Hammer Manufacturing Company in Linden, New Jersey where her son, John Jr., worked for four years. Subsequently to her employment at Hammer, she decided to work with her late husband, John "Jack" Spann at the Linden Board of Education. After working 12 years on the custodial staff at Linden High School, June retired and enjoyed her days playing Bingo which was one of her favorite past times.
June was grateful for motherhood and adored her children and grandchildren. She supported their endeavors and continuously encouraged them on their journey through life. She was involved in their school affairs and at one time served as a PTA President. Their loved ones became her loved ones, and their spouses were her children. "Oh, how much she will be missed".
On Thursday, July 14, 2016, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend departed this world. Her father God called her home after spending her final days with loved ones.June was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Spann; two brothers: Danny Williams and Detective Joseph Williams; and four sisters: Mae Pearl Yates, Lessie Taylor, Margaret Robinson and Alice Armstrong.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her devoted children: John Willie Spann, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Willingboro, New Jersey, Debra Spann, Jacqueline Johnson and her husband, Kevin, and Troy Spann and April, all of Linden, New Jersey; beloved sister: Helen "Tootsie" Bryant; eight grandchildren: Elishah, Jasmine, June, Ebony, Jalil, Jordan, Tatiyanah and Kaiya; two great-grandchildren: Elijah and Samia; Denzel; nieces and nephews; a host of dear relatives and three best friends: Marie, Tessie and Joan.
