Mrs. Delores Lee Lawson-Newkirk was born on April 10, 1947 to Plemmie Lee Lawson Sr. and Carrie Mae Thomas in Unadilla, Georgia. During the early years of her life she and her family relocated to New Jersey. Delores received her early education the Edison Public School System before moving to Rahway, NJ in 1960 where she continued her education culminating in her graduation from Rahway High School in 1965. This was also the year that she married her loving husband and high school sweetheart Gregory Edward Newkirk. They had one child, Sabrina Candy Newkirk and remained married until his death in 1990.

Delores accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age while she attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Edison, NJ where she remained a faithful member for many years. Delores truly loved the Lord, forever faithful, she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on the usher board, she was a member of the Flower Guild, and also a Pastor's Aide. She delighted in testifying before God about his many good works. She also had an affinity for caring for other people, she frequently visited with the sick and enjoyed a long career in service to other people.

Delores began her service to others with her first job working at the Woodbridge State School. She worked there 9 years caring for disabled persons. She was also dutifully employed for over 30 years as a Home Health Aide. She remained in this position until her retirement in 2011, due to her diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma Cancer. In her leisure time, Delores enjoyed a multitude of activities. She sang for 15 years with the 100 Women in White Community Choir at the 2nd Baptist Church in Rahway. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and former patients with whom she developed special bonds. Delores also liked traveling to the South to visit with family, attending Gospel Get-Aways in Myrtle Beach, and attending gospel anniversaries and concerts with her sisters. She truly enjoyed spending time with her "little family" the loving moniker that she bestowed on her daughter, and grand-daughters.

Delores received her Angel Wings on February 22, 2016. She spent her final days lovingly surrounded by her family. She was truly blessed and will be deeply missed.
