Andrew G. “Andy” Simpson passed away at the Harborside Healthcare in Wakefield, on Dec. 12th, at the age of 73. Andy was born in Tewksbury, raised in Roxbury and has been a resident of Melrose since 1960. Andy began his automotive career at a young age. He worked as a service manager for Frank Battles, Columbia, Hosmer & Stout Pontiac, Tom & Clay Chevrolet as well as numerous other car dealerships in the Boston area for over 50 years. His expertise in the field helped him develop a strong and loyal customer following. Andy raised seven children in Melrose with his first wife Caroline and after her death in 1984 met his second wife Anita (Amirault) Simpson. Together they enjoyed watching their families grow. Andy was a lifelong member of the Melrose Lodge of Elks #1031; he served as the Chairman for the Trustees for many years. Mr. Simpson was an associate member of the VFW Harold O’Young Post #2394 in Melrose and a former member of the Irish American Club in Malden. Andy is survived by his wife Anita L. (Amirault) Simpson and the late Caroline (Harrison) Simpson. Beloved father of Karen Mehegan of Natick, Andrew G. Simpson Jr. of Boston, Lyn Santiago of NY, Scott Simpson of Wilmington, Jeffrey Simpson of S. Hadley, Brian Simpson of NH and Christopher Simpson of Lynnfield. Devoted step-father of Louise Quigley, Robert W. Hall, Kathleen Childress all of Melrose, Doreen Stubbs of NH, Christine Borick, Gary Hall both of Saugus, Matthew Hall of Cambridge, Robin Woolaver of Tewksbury, Stephen Hall of Georgetown and the late Dianna Hall. Brother of Richard Simpson of Billerica, Florence Murphy & Joseph Simpson both of Boston, Frances Piper of Dedham, Paul Simpson of Weymouth, Robert Simpson of Mendon and the late Sherman Eldred. Also survived by 24 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs. Dec. 16th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tues. 7-9PM, Wed. 2-4 & 7-9PM. Burial in The Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery in Boston.
