Eila S. (Ikonen) Kataisto, 89, of Hubbardston, died peacefully Thursday March 31, 2016 in Life Care Center of Leominster after an illness.
Eila was born in Quincy, MA, May 21, 1926, a daughter of the late Heikki Ikonen and the late Mary H. (Hanninen) Ikonen Soini, and had lived in Hubbardston most of her life. Her beloved husband Arne John Kataisto died in 1990.
Eila was responsible for the family poultry business, which she ran along with Arne for 20 years. Eila worked as a etcher for Micro Networks and Sprague Electric for many years. She enjoyed knitting, arts and crafts, braiding rugs, and crossword puzzles. Eila was very involved with Summit Elder Care in Leominster, where she remained very social and active. Family always came first for Eila, she dedicated her life to raising her children, and cherished every moment she spent with her entire family.
Eila will be missed by her seven children; Wayne Kataisto and his wife Katherine of Tucson, AZ, Paul Kataisto and his wife Helen of Hubbardston, MA, Mark Kataisto and his wife Christa of Oak Hills, Ca, Ann Smith and her husband Robert J. of Templeton, Jon Kataisto and his wife Shirley of Leland, NC, Scott Kataisto and his wife Marcia of Phillipston, MA, and Jane Frederico and her husband John of Hubbardston, MA, one sister; Barbara Laitinen of Hubbardston, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Eila was predeceased by her brother Reino Ikonen.
