Karen V. Collins, 69, of Gardner, died peacefully Saturday morning March 19, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

Karen was born in Gardner, October 2, 1946, a daughter of the late Wilho E. and Blanche E. (Bettey) Parviainen, and has lived in Gardner most of her life.

Karen is a 1965 graduate of Gardner High School. She went on to earn three Diplomas from Mount Wachusett Community College; in 1974 she earned a Diploma in Irrigation Engineering, in 1986 she earned a Diploma for Human Services, and in 1988 she earned a Diploma in Criminal Justice. When he was younger Karen worked for several local companies, the former Mill St. Nursing Home, Grants and Rich's department stores, and Fran's Variety. Karen also worked as a Security Supervisor for Heywood Hospital for many years. When she was younger Karen loved riding horses and skating on S. Bent Pond. She was an avid Patriots, Bruins and Nascar Fan, and also loved watching Dancing With The Stars. She enjoyed taking long rides on back roads especially during the fall, she loved animals, was a talented artist, and let's not forget her love of sunbathing. Most of all Karen loved her family and friends. She had a mischievous nature and enjoyed playing harmless pranks on all her family and friends. She also loved telling them ghost stories and watching scary movies with them She dedicated her life to her family. She cherished every holiday and birthday, and also made each one special. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Karen was predeceased by her twin brother Kenneth Parviainen.

Karen will be sadly missed by her four children; Lisa St. Onge of Baldwinville, Gregg Collins of Gardner, Jamey Collins of Gardner, and Amy Miles of Fitchburg, two sisters; Sandra E. Parviainen and Linda J. Parviainen, seven grandchildren; Liz, Julia, Justin, Kayla, Ryan, Shannon, and Tayah, five great-grandchildren, Amberly, Madasyn, Kevin, Brooke, and Lilly, her nephew; William Parviainen, and other nieces, nephews, and extended family.

You are invited to attend a visiting hour in the Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner on Saturday April 2, 2016 from 10-11AM. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home following at 11AM. There is no burial. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen's memory may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation, PO box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265
