Annette Theresa (Wironen) Leger, 86, of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday evening December 29, 2013 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.

Theresa was born in Gardner, May 6 1927, a daughter of the late Victor and Antoinette (LaFortune) Wironen and has lived in Gardner most of her life. Theresa's beloved husband, Alfred Norman Leger died in July, 2006.

When she was younger, Theresa worked for the Orpheum Theater, Liggett's Pharmacy, JC Penney, and Heywood Wakefield. Later she returned to school and became a LPN. In 1968 she passed her licensing exam with a score of 185 out of 200, and for the next 18 years worked as a nurse at Heywood Hospital. Theresa retired in 1986, and moved to Cape Cod, but returned to Gardner a few years later to be with her friends and family. She loved vacationing at Race Point on Cape Cod with her friends and family, and especially loved spending time with her grand nieces and nephews. Theresa and Norman were never able to have children of her own, but they enthusiastically "adopted" their nieces and nephews and later grandnieces and nephews, welcoming them into their home and treating them like their own children and grandchildren.

Theresa will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews; Sylvia Turcott of Old Lyme, CT, Elaine Lucas Berg of Brewster, MA Lawrence Lucas of Belchertown, Father John Wironen of Portland, OR, Jane Wironen Geary of Ocala, Fl, Jeffrey Wironen of Leominster, James Wironen of Leominster, Leo LaSalle, Lester LaSalle of Leominster, Norman Wironen of Gardner, Susan Wironen Foster of Topsham, ME, Christine Wironen Peterson of Scottsdale, AZ, Robert Wironen of Tyngsboro, MA, Steven Wironen of Wiscasset, ME, Alan Wironen of Topsham, ME, Janet Wironen Garcia of Westfield, MA, Ann Wironen Osten, Marriottsville, MD, Dr. John Wironen of Topsham, ME, caregiver Christine LeBlanc Wironen of Gardner, and numerous grandnieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by four brothers; Francis Wironen, Leon LaSalle, William Wironen, and John Russell Wironen, and two sisters; Elizabeth Brouillette and Alice Lucas.

Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Theresa's life by gathering for calling hours in the Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St. Gardner, on Saturday January 4, 2013 from 9-11AM.
