Ella Jones, 78, of Middletown, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Florence, SC, she was the daughter of the late Liston and Augusta (Harrison) Jones.
Ella lived in Middletown the majority of her life and was a member of Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church. Ella was a kind, caring and generous woman who always had time for any child who needed her. Throughout her life, she welcomed many children from the community, took care of them and treated them like her own.
Ella is survived by a daughter, Felicia Byrd of Middletown; two sons, Howard Byrd, Jr. of Tigard, OR and Craig Byrd (Kirsten) of Middletown; two brothers, Billy Jones of Springfield, MA and Robert L. Jones of Cromwell; five grandchildren, Leandra, Andre, Edison, Eric and Jentry; her former husband, Howard Byrd, Sr. of Middletown and a host of children she thought of as her own.
Along with her parents, Ella was predeceased by two brothers, Fred Jones, Sr. and Sam Jones and a sister, Hattie Rush.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 10:00 am at Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
