Martha Frances McArthur, 93, departed this life peacefully at her home in Springfield Gardens, NY on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Born on January 20, 1924 in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late James Russell and Martha Stewart McArthur.
Frances graduated Middletown High School in CT and went on to earn her license as a Registered Nurse. Upon completion of her higher education in the profession of nursing, Frances was employed at the Presbyterian Hospital of NY; Mount Sinai Hospital; and other prestigious hospitals in NY. Frances ended her prestigious nursing career at the New York City Health Department February 1, 1987.
As a young adult, Frances attended The Mother African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Harlem, NY and The Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamaica, NY, where she faithfully and joyfully sang unto The Lord. Frances always displayed the heart of God. She always protected, consoled and shared wisdom with everyone she met and with those who needed her.
Frances leaves her daughter, Martha Lynn Pearson of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Monique, Percy, and Shaneequah; great grandchildren, Tony, Tavaras, Ulani, Isaiah, and Tyree; and great great grandchildren, Tatiana and Micah and her sisters; Lois Riddick, Middletown, Constance Thornhill, Bronx, NY, Lannie Morehead, Fort Washington, MD, Eula Phillips, New York, NY, Henrietta Howard, Oxon Hill, MD, and Joan Hill, Upper Marlboro, MD.
Frances was predeceased by a sister, Pauline McCorkle and stepbrother, Lester William McArthur, Sr. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30 at 11:00 am at Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown. Burial will follow in Cromwell Hillside Cemetery East. Family and friends may call before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
