Dorothy Landon Vassar, age 99, of 52 Missionary Road, Cromwell, CT, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
Dorothy was born on May 24, 1917 in Bristol, Vermont to the late Henry and Lois (Hill) Landon. She also had one brother, Leland, who predeceased her. She graduated from Bristol High School and attended Bay Path Institute in Springfield, MA.
On December 28, 1940, Dorothy married William (Bill) F. Vassar who survives her. He was a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army and for the next 25 years, they traveled extensively. Upon retiring from the army, they lived for 35 years in Brunswick, ME. There, Dorothy was a faithful member of the Berean Baptist Church during which time she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, pianist and Deaconess. On September 29, 2001, she and Bill moved to Covenant Village in Cromwell, CT and became members of the Bible Baptist Church of Cromwell.
William and Dorothy were blessed with two daughters, Carol Pouch and Lynne Roe and a son, David Vassar. These children survive her as do six granddaughters, Kimberly MacDonald, Kristina Baranowski, Kira Freytag, Whitney Cliggett, Kim Roberti and Shannon Spence along with 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. Calling hours will be one hour before the service from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the State Veterans' Cemetery in Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dorothy's memory may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 40 Country Squire Road, Cromwell, CT 06416.
