Catherine (Kotyk) Kerelejza, 94, of Kensington, widow of Stephen A. Kerelejza, passed away Monday (May 21, 2012) at her home. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Maxim) Kotyk, she lived in Kensington since 1951.
Catherine was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New Britain; was a member of the St. Olga Sisterhood and the church choir. She was involved in many church activities including Bundles for Ukraine; embroidering clothing for Ukrainian Dolls; bread and pirogy making; as well as making intricately decorated Ukrainian Easter Eggs. She was a wonderful gardener with two green thumbs.
Surviving is her son Stephen Kerelejza and his wife Barbara of Plantsville; a daughter, Maryann Dolling and her husband Ulf of Westfield, NJ; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Cherpack of Southington; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Dingle and her husband Jonathan of Meriden; Major Stephen J. Kerelejza and his wife Misha, USAF Stationed in Germany; Stephan Dolling and his wife Charlotte of Westfield, NJ; and Klaus Dolling of Honolulu, HI; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Stephen, she was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Mary Tronsky, Julia Gerent, John Kotyk, Walter Kotyk, Stella Kobela and Anna Kozlowski.
Funeral services are Friday 10 AM at St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 54 Winter Street, New Britain, CT 06051. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday 5 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. A Panakhyda Service will be conducted during calling hours at 6 PM.
