On Thursday, November 3, 2011, Walter Glen Pierce; affectionately known as "Watermelon", departed this life at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia to Rose Jeannette Pierce and the late Walter William Pierce on March 16, 1962.
Gleen was educated in the Westmoreland County Public School System. He furthered his education and received his diploma from Old Dominion Job Corp Center in Monroe, Virginia He was a licensed truck driver, and worked for Darl Cooper for many years, and then he went to work for the late Otis Roy laying cement.
He accepted Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, Virginia under the leadership of the late Rev. George N. Bumbrey. He united in holy matrimony to Renita S. Johnson November 4, 2005, after being together for 21 years.
"Watermelon" liked fishing, horse-shoes, football (he loved those Redskins), pool, baseball, and going to the race track. He especially loved being around family and friends. He loved is baby girl "Mammie."
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his devoted wife of six years, Renita Pierce; his mother Rose J. Pierce; one aunt Addie Mae Turner; two daughters: Mataya Johnson, Latoya King; three sons: Alonzo Smith, Walter "G" Johnson, James Johnson; three grand-children: Key'nidra "NaNa", Da'aunna "DaDa", Ke'Triauna "KeyKey"; three god-children: Todd Smith, Jamek Tate, and Kevin Martinez; seven sisters: Selinda Owens of King George, Virginia, Evelyn McDowney (Murphy) of King George, Virginia, Laura "Nee-Nee" Quarterman (Ken) of Clinton, Maryland, Ross Ann Bumbrey (Sterling) of King George, Virginia, Stella Campbell (Terry) of King George, Virginia, Minister Angela Newman (Ronald) of Supply, Virginia, and Staff Sgt. Lecola Pierce of Hinesville, Georgia; five brothers: Otis Lee Johnson of Colonial Beach, Virginia, Lewis Johnson of Washington, D.C., Rydell Pierce (Vicky) of Severn, Maryland, William D. Pierce of Petersburg, Virginia, Randolph Brown (Sheline) of Colonial Beach, Virginia; mother-in-law Irene Johnson, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law; devoted nephews: Jerome "Tummy" Owens, John "JT" Hopewell, special friends, Carlos Newman, O'neal Johnson, Everette Byrd, James McDowney and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
