Amuel E. Lardier, 97, of Nutley, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Cedar Hill Care Center, Cedar Grove. The funeral will be from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Friday, October 21 at 8:30 A.M. There will be a funeral mass celebrated at Holy Family Church, Nutley, at 9:30 A.M. The entombment will be at Glendale Chapel Mausoleum, Bloomfield, with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 19, from 4-8 P.M. and on Thursday, October 20, from 4-8 P.M.

Amuel was born on November 21, 1913 at 85 Franklin Avenue, Nutley, which was the farm of his grandfather and grandmother. He was one of seven children. He attended Lincoln School, Franklin Middle School, and Nutley High School. Amuel then attended Rutgers University – School of Pharmacy, where he graduated in 1937 as class president and Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude.

Amuel was drafted into the Army in 1943, and after a short training period in the U.S., he was sent to Europe as an Army Pharmacist and Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in a U.S. Army Hospital in England, and later as a pharmacist and Interpreter in France.

In 1947, Amuel opened Lardier Pharmacy at 115 Franklin Avenue, Nutley. Lardier Pharmacy operated at the same location until its sale in 1986. Amuel continued to work as a pharmacist in local pharmacies until age 92.

On April 10, 2008, Amuel was honored by the Nutley Jaycees with the Distinguished Service Award in the field of Business, for his remarkable record of service to the people and Township of Nutley.

Amuel remained active in many organizations. He was a life member of the Nutley Elks Lodge #1290, a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council # 2346, an active member of the VFW, Amvets, Optimists Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club of Nutley, and the Alumni of Rutgers University.

In the mid-1950s, the Nutley Midget Football League was being formed. The four teams instrumental in this formation were Lardier Pharmacy, Zinicola Bakery, Orechio, and Bank of Nutley. Lardier Pharmacy went on to not only support the Midget Football League, but also aided in the financing of the town's baseball League.

Lardier's Pharmacy employed hundreds of area school students over the forty-year period, stressing the importance of education, hard work, and family values.

Amuel is personified by those who are hardworking and devoted to improving the effectiveness of their communities and the quality of life for their family, friends and neighbors within the spheres of his life work. He has established a model to emulate and set a standard of excellence toward which others might strive.

Amuel is survived by his beloved children Carole Lardier, Ruth "Toni" Lardier, David Lardier and his wife Donna, and Elizabeth Guerino and her husband Joseph; his caring sisters Mary Lardier, Geraldine Arcuti, Eleanor Fraser, and Genevieve Lardier; his 10 cherished grandchildren; also his 7 precious great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cherished pet Bernie.

Amuel is predeceased by his wife Rita (nee Thomas) Lardier, his sister Mae Lardier, and his brother Michael Lardier.
