Rick J. Hedinger

HEDINGER, Rick, J., 53, surrounded by his loving family, passed away at home on Thursday, February 28, 2013, after losing his courageous battle with melanoma cancer.

He was born October 21, 1959 in Wheeling, the only son of six children to the late Robert and Carol Kittle Hedinger. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and a 1977 graduate of Wheeling Central. He was employed with Estes Express Lines.

Rick enjoyed golfing, skiing and horseback riding, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate Fan.

His love for life went unmeasured and was apparent to all who knew him. He will be most remembered for his kindness and wonderful personality. He was always a gentleman. His love and connection with children and young adults contributed to his many funny nick-names.

Surviving are his loving wife and best friend, Susan Marple Hedinger, two adored daughters, Leann and her husband, I.J. Kalcum, Katie and husband, Stephen Hicks, all of Wheeling; his devoted step-daughter Suzanne Schrader of Phoenix, Ariz.; two precious grandchildren, Zander and Layla Kalcum; his five loving sisters, Susan Lehasky of Avondale, Ariz., Lynda Parmley and her husband Stewart of Clarksville, Ind., Diane Yeater and her husband Brad of Stillwell, Kan., and Sharon Robb and Janet Richardson, both of Wheeling; special friend and God-mother, Mary Ellen Lurty; and several nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law, including his special sister in law, Gwynn Repp,; and his beloved dog, Zoe.

The family would like to give special thanks to Brenda and Cheryl of Amedisys Hospice, and to all those who made Rick's journey comfortable and fun. He will be greatly missed, but will live on in our hearts.

Friends will be received on Friday, March 8, 2013, from 12-3 & 5-8 pm, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dennis Schuelkens as celebrant. Private interment will be held in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
