Frances Schmidt, 83, of LaSalle, CO, passed away Friday, February 25, 2005, at Hospice & Palliative Care.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Allnutt Funeral Service/Macy Chapel. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley.
Frances was born March 15, 1921 to William Waldo and Marie (Benson) Walker in Fort Collins, CO and the family moved to LaSalle when she was a child. She attended Auburn and Kersey High School.
Frances married Elmer W. Schmidt in 1937 in Greeley, and they moved to the farm south of LaSalle where she was a homemaker and raised her family. Elmer passed away on August 15, 1983. She then married Ben Layton in 1990 in Missouri, and he died in 2001. She continued to live on the farm for the remainder of her life, except for a short time that she spent in Arizona and most recently at Garden Square at Westlake.
She was a talented artist and known for her portraits and still life’s done in oils. She loved to travel, including a cruise through the Panama Canal and a trip to Egypt and the Holy Lands. Frances loved to play cards including canasta and was a loving caregiver to her family. She was a devoted Christian and member of the Farmerette Club of LaSalle.
Surviving Frances are her sons, Bill Schmidt and wife, Bernadette, of LaSalle, CO and John Schmidt and wife, Laurie, of Fort Collins, CO; daughter, JoAnne and husband, Gordon Adler, of Surprise, AZ; grandchildren, Bret Schmidt, Jon Adler, Marci Rude, Heather Packard and Jamie Schmidt; and great grandchildren, Bryson Rains, Hunter Hoburg, Tanner Schmidt, A. J. Schmidt, Madline Packard, and Charlie Rude.
Her parents, husbands, Elmer and Ben, sister, Jane Hester, brother, Robert Walker and granddaughter, Billie Schmidt Rain, preceded her in death.
