Mike Schump, 86, of Greeley, CO, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado Inpatient Unit at North Colorado Medical Center
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2004 at Allnutt Funeral Service/Macy Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Macy Chapel. A private graveside service will be Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Linn Grove Cemetery.
Mike was born September 17, 1917 in Morris County, Kansas to Joseph and Louise (Ruckert) Schump. He was educated and grew up in Morris County and entered the U. S. Army in 1942. He served with the 5th Armored Division in England through France in six major battles including Battle of the Bulge and Hurtgen Forest and advancing on to the Elbe River outside Berlin.
He married Helen Granzow on April 20, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Herington, Kansas. After working on the Rock Island Railroad and farming for several years, they moved their family to Greeley in March of 1958. Mike worked as a mechanic and machine designer until his retirement in 1979.
Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and after his retirement, the grandsons joined to add to his joy.
His wife, Helen Schump of Greeley, CO; sons, James Michael Schump and wife Denise of Berthoud, CO, David Eugene Schump and wife Liz of Fort Collins, CO and Roger Jay Schump and companion Lori Rapp of Greeley, CO; brother, Ray Schump and wife Betty of Greeley, CO; sister, Janice and husband Lawrence Spexhardt of Colwich, KS; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild survive him.
His parents, two sisters, one brother and one grandson preceded him in death.
