Funeral service for John Crosby, 71, of Wills Point, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point with Rev. Billy Watson officiating. Interment will be at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
He passed away Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2011, in Wills Point.
John was born July 4, 1939, in Kountze, Texas, the son of H.A. Crosby and Seawillow Gardner Crosby. He was raised in Kountze and graduated from Kountze High School in 1957. In 1958, he married Kay Laney in Wills Point. John was a diesel mechanic, self-employed rancher and had owned and operated the Van Zandt Gin Company. He also had been employed by Hollandsworth Engineering and the Garland Fire Department. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting guns, reading and working on equipment. He liked talking to people who knew more than he did, because he had a genuine desire to gain knowledge. John was a member of the Wills Point Tractor Club and Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point.
Preceded in death by his parents, H. A. and Seawillow Crosby.
John is survived by his wife, Kay Crosby, of Wills Point; two sons, Guy Crosby & wife, Ronell, of Wills Point and Tod Crosby, of Wills Point; brother, Tony Crosby & wife, Narcie, of Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law, David Laney & wife, Kathy, of Wills Point; two grandchildren, Tiffany Hulsey & husband, Tony and Chealsey Crosby & fiancé, Fletcher Brown; three great-grandchildren, Trinity Hulsey, Taylor Hulsey and Carson Ann Brown and three cousins, Ricky Rhodes, of Falls Church, Virginia, Randy Rhodes, of Baytown and Janet Gardner, of Arlington, Virginia.
Pallbearers: Jimmy Don Wilson, F. G. Hardy, Damon Davis, Larry Armstrong, Mike Foster and Dale Foster.
Honorary Pallbearers: The Wills Point Tractor Club
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point.
