Barbara Ruth Norton passed away at Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham on July 23rd at the age of 79. Barbara was born in Medford, raised in Malden, graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Malden, Salem State College and recieved her masters in Education from Boston University. She was a resident of Melrose for the past 42 years. Barbara taught school at Lincoln Jr. High School in Malden for 20 years and then at Winchester High School for 20 years. She was a longtime member of Incarnation Church in Melrose, was a member of the choir & taught CCD at Incanation Church and was the Incarnation Church representative for Church Women United. Barbara was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Salem State College Alumni Association. She was the daughter of the late Carl P. & Catherine ( O'Brien ) Norton. Sister of David A. Norton & his wife Marie of Melrose and the late Paul J. Norton. Sister-in-law of Gertrude Grondin of Woburn. Aunt of Mark Norton of Newton, Kenneth Norton of NH, Diane Norton of ME, Linda Callahan of Woburn and Pamela Burns of Woburn. Also survived by 6 grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W Foster St., Melrose on Tues. July 29th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St Melrose at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited Visiting hours Mon 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's name to Alzheimer's Assoc. 36 Cameron Ave. Cambridge 02140.
